It gets HOT in Georgia in August. That’s not news, but I thought I’d fight back. There are a lot of mesh jackets available, but I hadn’t found any in hi-viz yellow until AGV released the Solare men’s mesh jacket recently.
The jacket is indeed largely mesh, with solid fabric only on the shoulders, collar, waistband, and outside of the arms (the black areas in the image above). It seems to let about 5% more air through than my Olympia jacket; of course, 96 degree air is still far from refreshing, but the sensation of moving air fools you into thinking you’re less roasted than you might otherwise be. It’s very well made, and it retails for a paltry $99 at NewEnough.com and other retailers.
Because I know European sizes tend to run small, I ordered an XL, to allow for my, ah, boobular area. That didn’t quite work: It’s still tight across the chest, but the arms are overlong, and the jacket itself rides above my waist. Clearly, it was designed for a male lemur, not an American female. If I were a slender guy, it would be perfect, but I guess I’ll stick with my Olympia. It’s as close to perfect as I’ve found.
